Why Hot Yoga?
Hot Yoga is for everyone. It’s not an elite club aimed at the super bendy, it’s for regular people just like you.
Yoga is a great workout for mind & body, but add to it the element of heat and you’ll be giving your body a strong cardio workout that will leave you feeling fantastic.
Our classes are designed to work every inch of your body, inside out from bones to skin, at a slow & safe pace allowing you to ease into your practice and develop strength & flexibility class by class.
WHAT TO EXPECT
It’s going to be hot and sweaty in there, that’s a given, but aside from this there’s a few things that you may experience during and after class that you might not have expected…
Sweat it out
Expect to sweat like you’ve never done before! We’ve got some great advice on how to prepare for this further down the page.
Have a laugh
It’s yoga in a hot sweaty room. You will be red faced, you will fall out of your balancing postures (and so will your teachers) and you will almost certainly make some funny noises on your mat…laugh at yourself, smile and just have some fun!
Find your focus
You’re guaranteed not to think about anything else while you’re in your class other than what you are doing in each posture. Make this your escape from the outside world, for 60 wonderful sweaty minutes.
Learn to breathe
We take over 650 million breaths in our lifetime but when do we really stop and breathe deeply? Learn how to use your breath to bring energy, focus, control and calm to mind & body.
Practice makes progress
Only perfect practice makes perfect. We’re all just normal humans who have mostly never done yoga before! Class by class, pose by pose, breath by breath, you will see and feel your physical and mental progressions. Being able to look back at something you couldn’t do 6 months ago but you’ve achieved today through patience and dedication is something special.
If we had a pound for every time we’ve heard someone new to hot yoga come out of their first class and say ‘I didn’t think I’d be able to do that pose, I surprised myself’. Well, we’d be sipping cocktails on a beach in Bora Bora right now! But seriously, give it a try, you’ll be giving yourself a little pat on the back after class.
PREPARING FOR CLASS
Hot Yoga favours the prepared! Read our top tips below that will help you make the most of your first class and most of all enjoy it…
HYDRATE … drink lots of water leading up to class. It’s best to go in hydrated than drink water throughout class, but do bring a water bottle with you and sip water in class when needed.
FUEL … avoid eating anything too heavy for a couple of hours before class. A light snack like a banana for some energy is a good idea.
CLOTHING FOR CLASS…leggings, shorts, vests, t-shirts, crop tops are all suitable to wear. Avoid very baggy clothing that will stick to you when wet and stop you from moving freely.
CLOTHING FOR AFTER CLASS … bring a change of clothes for after class and feel free to use The Thames Club shower facilities.
MATS & TOWELS … bring a large towel and a mat with you (we rent both at reception if you do not have your own or you forget to bring anything).
TOP TIP … do not moisturise your skin before class unless you want to slide around on your mat for 60 minutes!
On your first visit please arrive 15 minutes before class so you can meet your teacher, complete a registration form and get settled. You are welcome to head into the studio to start to acclimatise to the heat.
